- The falling leaves, vibrant in color - the reds, the oranges, the yellows. It is breathtaking.
- The scents - logs burning in fireplaces to ward off those chilly evenings, dried leaves, pine cones, mulled cider, candy apples and maple syrup.
- The food - ah, big pots of chili and homemade soups, baking bread, oatmeal with butter, brown sugar and milk, apple cider and anything pumpkin - pies, milkshakes, muffins, breads, cookies, oh my!
- Football games, stadium blankets, and hot chocolate.
- Pumpkin farms, corn mazes, hayrides, apple picking, haunted houses.
- Warm boots and over-sized, cozy sweaters.
- Nature walks with the kiddies.
- Planning our annual Halloween party.
What about you? What do YOU like about October?
BEWITCHINGLY,
TRISH
Hi i'm enjoying discovering your blog - i have signed up for the challenge too, woohoo! A lot of what you listed for October is happening in my corner of the world too: apple picking? check! fire in fireplace? check! fuzzy scarves/sweaters? check! no football games though, because I don't live in the States. And kids have spread their wings and flown the nest, so no nature walks with kids (I admit that I do miss that)...I have a wonderful compensation for it though: horseback riding on my horse in the forest. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by! I envy the horseback riding - lucky you. As for the kiddies - I am helping raise my great grandchildren.
DeleteI love your description of October in your part of the world, Trish. It is the exact opposite here, in the Land Down Under. Naked trees are starting to get their leaves back; the sun is rising earlier and setting later each day; the weather is absolutely beautiful - a little cool in the morning and evening - but perfect through the day. Just the right conditions for writing.
ReplyDeleteI love YOUR description of October! Thank you for stopping by.
DeleteI love all those too but living in the south I miss the beautiful fall colors of the leaves, the delicious New York State apples (although we do have them here but I loved picking apples!) Hubby and I get our "color and apple fix" by sneaking off to the mountains in NC, the next best place not too far from us.
