The Weekend Reviewed

This Memorial Day Weekend was pretty perfect!

Friday, although it was cold, and I mean COLD, the night sky was clear, absolutely gorgeous! I dropped Kayla and Doug off on Talbot Street in Braddock to stand in line (turned out to be a very long wait) to take a shuttle to Carrie Furnace and watch the Pittsburgh Try-Outs for American Ninja Warrior.  Although the tickets we had were for the 8:00 p.m. taping, the kids did not get to Carrie Furnace until 10:00 p.m.  Did I mention it was COLD, I mean temps in the 30’s (I know that’s probably considered balmy in some areas).

While they were there, I took Elliot over to the train tracks and he got to see one go by up close and personal.  He LOVED it.  I sure hope he likes riding a train because our Thomas the Train Adventure is in a few weeks.

Watching for planes
I then took the little guy to B&N so he could play with the trains and then we walked around the little town at the Waterfront.  Stopped at Starbucks to get him juice and a cookie.  One of his newer words is moon, so we sat outside under the clear sky looking for planes, and listening for trains.  One we picked up the older kids (they got back to Talbot after 2 a.m.), we headed on home to warm beds.

Saturday, I drove up to Mom’s and we (plus Elliot) went shopping at Sam’s.  It was time again to load up on paper products.  Saturday, as well as Sunday, was gorgeous with temps in the 80’s.  Amanda and her boys came and spent the afternoon, I had made baked ziti and a sunflower salad.  Kayla had whipped up an ice box cake for dessert.

Set up at the flea market

Sunday, Joey and I got up around 6:00 a.m. and headed out to the flea market (we had loaded the car the night before – SMART move).  Although we broke even, I totally enjoyed meeting people and standing in the sunshine.  We bought vegetable plants for a garden.  We only stayed til noon as Joey’s daughter was coming for a visit.
Jade visits
Back home the kids played, and Joey dug out the garden, lined it with cinder blocks and planted tomatoes, various pepper plants, broccoli, and zucchini.  The strawberry plants he put in a big planter.  I bought lettuce seeds, basil, thyme, oregano and parsley for my windowsill garden.  We will have lots of homegrown this year!!

Monday, another gorgeous day, Mom came in and we drove out to Kohl’s to get the baby a few pairs of sandals as they were half price.  The rest of the day was spent sitting on the porch, playing with E., doing laundry and just relaxing.
